Replay the battle that ended the Indochina War in the fourth game in the SGS Battle series.
Grenoble, February 26, 2025.

Dien Bien Phu is a remarkable battle in many ways, and not just because it ended the Indochina War (1946-1954).
SGS Battle For Dien Bien Phu covers the entire period of the battle, from March to May 1954 (the entire battle spans from March 13, 1954 to May 7, 1954). This means that some of the initial operations are covered, not just the siege itself.
SGS Battle
SGS Battle For Dien Bien Phu is the fourth game in the now well-established SGS Battle series, covering intense fights and battles in well-known (or not) locations, small but rich in fights; a « tactical » scale for units of the size of a regiment, a battalion, a company and even a platoon (depending on the game) and game turns that represent a very short period of real time (one or two days, half a day, a few hours…).
One of the many peculiarities of the SGS Battle series compared to other SGS games concerns a system of unit activation that means that not all units will necessarily be able to move and fight during a turn. This will only be possible if they have been activated. And depending on the battles or episodes of them, the activation limits will be more or less important.

Main features
The game features a large campaign scenario covering the battle from March to May, as well as other scenarios (intermediate or shorter – see below) based on different starting days or limited to specific areas (Gabrielle or Isabelle strongpoints, or even off-map sectors of the Vietminh supply networks, where proper guerrilla warfare can occur).
The game is mainly composed of ground units and some French air units. Many units are also considered as support means or elements intended to reinforce the defense (most often) or the attack (sometimes).
All types of units present in Dien Bien Phu in 1954 appear in the game: armored vehicles, paratroopers, maquis (aka guerrillas), infantry and militia, engineers, artillery and even some unique means or weapons.
The player will also find historical photos and events in the game.
The estimated playing time is one to several hours… depending on the scenarios, with a high replay value.
The game is translated from French to English, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese and Vietnamese.
List of scenarios
- Gabrielle: a short scenario about the first attack on this French strongpoint at the northern end of the fortified zone.
- The Battle of the Five Hills: from March 30 to April 7, one day per turn, battle that takes place around Dominique 3 and Eliane 2.
- Dien Bien Phu alternative campaign: a campaign that starts earlier and where the fortified camp does not exist.
- Dien Bien Phu grand campaign: the entire battle from April to May. All major events are strictly historical but players can choose some ‘What-if’ options.
SGS Battle For Dien Bien Phu is playable solo against AI or in multiplayer for two players, available on PC via Steam for a base price of $ / € 24.50.
