Richard III v.1.0 - Ready for Beta-testing

Hey guys,

Damien speaking, developer of the Block Engine and happy to announce that Richard III - War of the Roses is now feature-complete and ready for a heavy phase of Beta-testing on Steam.

What's still missing ? Well, the AI require more iteration time, game rules might not be clearly explained yet (via hint or tutorial screens), and additional visual and audio feedback might be needed here and there... Of course, you might also find some bugs along the way.

So may you find any confusing part, AI mistake (even obvious ones) or bug, please let us know about it. Every feedback is really appreciated to help with the completion of the project! Thanks a lot.

It's the first game of the Columbia Games series to reach a state with all the main rules in place, stay tuned for news on the completion of the others...

I sent a pm on KS, but here are some points:

Some more historical notes, like the historical situation before and after each campaign, maybe some biographical info on key players.  right now, they are just a block with A3x4 attacks, B3x3 attacks.  I think the hiatorical info would add some hooks for the game.

I played the full game this morning, as york vs defensive lancaster AI.  The AI never activated any units other than what was on the board when each campaign ended.

Is there a reason I can't attack Ayr in Scotland?

I think that Scotland, like France, is off limits to York; and that Ireland and Calais are off limits to Lancaster.  This is from the original board game.

ok, so played as york vs defensive bot.  seized the throne on turn 6 of first campaign, bot only had 4 units left.  second campaign, it activated some units from france, but by the end of the campaign, it had nothing on the board.  Third campaign, it never activated another unit.  It then froze when it played the surprise card.

i also cannot select targets for my units, it just auto targets.  Whats the difference between charge and fire?

I also had the AI freeze after it played Surprise.  But when I exited the game, then came back and chose "Continue", the AI came alive again.

Also played my first game as York vs Lancaster bot.  I also couldn't attack Scotland.  I didn't pay alot of attention to how many blocks were mustered from off board by bot and will next time.  I did notice that if I hit and killed a block, future hits by the same attacking block STAYED on hitting the same block, basically wasting those hits.

Game 2 - Lancaster vs York Bot.  Same issue with pushing attacks on already dead blocks.  I noticed floating dead blocks as well.  (they had a red X)  and noticed that the AI was having trouble deciding what to do.  Did not bring near enough blocks from reserves out and kept doing nonsensical moves... like moving to the Isle of Man and losing steps.

Another note to consider.  When in combat, it's clear some blocks are getting the +1 for being in their home territory - but if you didn't know the game you wouldn't know why that A2 is hitting on 3.  Perhaps some kind of visual to note that bonus?

Also saw the silly move to the Isle of Man

A couple of minor cosmetic things: the Muster card ends, "Sea movement is not -" ["allowed" is missing].  And the Piracy card ends, "Can only retreat to a -".
